It was brightened up by replacing the old cabinets with a traditional raised panel and mitered door styling, in a bisque color with brown glaze highlights. The granite is a medium green tone with gold and yellow textures, and the backsplash is a marble basket-weave pattern with pale green “dots” to match the countertop. As a remedy, the new design incorporates a corner mounted oven and cooking area to help change the geometry of the room and create a focal point. A sideboard by the eating area helps to define two distinct spaces. Traditional style cabinets for the main area feature a raised panel detail and they are finished in a bisque color with brown glaze highlights. The island is a stained cherry with black glaze highlights. The sideboard is stained cherry to match the island and has raised panel and miter door detailing. The countertops are Santa Cecilia granite with gold tones, brown veining, and burgundy dots. The clients’ desire for organic and natural materials led to the choice of unstained cherry wood cabinetry in a shaker style. The design demonstrates a clear separation of cooking and food prep areas along with a distinct storage and coffee station area. Storage by the cooktop houses a large collection of spices. A multi-level coffered ceiling was added to the geometry to add architectural detailing to the space. Countertops are soapstone with a natural drain board cut in by the sink. Tile is imported and hand-painted, and windows treatments in the nook were handcrafted by one of the owners. All appliances are stainless steel. Rather than a rustic feel to match the neighborhood, the client wanted “sophisticated luxury” with a modern feel. The linear design has simple geometry with organized detail, and the eating area is built-in with storage drawers beneath. Custom upholstered seat and back cushions offer the finishing touch. Cabinets are cherry wood with an espresso stain; doors and drawers are a shaker type with a small inside profile at the panel. The arched doors were removed to create accent niches, and lower doors were removed to install wine racks below. Between the recessed niches is a rustic wood wall that serves as a backdrop to a custom made sideboard. The wall is antique barn wood boards that were hand-painted by the designer with a multi-layer staining and glazing technique. The existing rectangular table was replaced with a round pedestal version in walnut with heavy distressing that seats eight. Seats are two-toned upholstery the match the great room just across the foyer. Inside seat and back are embroidered textures while back and sides are velvet. Chandelier is round with matching walls sconces added to create mood lighting. The design has a rustic modern feel with wood floors and stone fireplace. The cabinets are off-white paint in a shaker style with soft bevel accent detail. The floating plate shelves are pale gray stain on ash. All appliances are stainless steel with a deep stainless steel sink. Countertops are white granite with deep gray and taupe veining. Stylish new furniture replaced an old dark set, and floors were re-stained in a cherry finish. The window at the tub opens up to a wooded landscape and small openings above the sink area allow natural light to pour in from the adjoining walk-in closets, which collect a fair amount of morning and mid-day sun. The sink bases have open shelving below for additional towel storage and a center shelf unit is for hand towels and bathing cloths. The sinks are custom-made hammered copper with antique glaze and fixtures are antique bronze. A dresser backs up to the shower area and offers two laundry hampers; center drawers are for socks and underclothing. The cabinets and bath front woodwork are distressed cherry with dark brown glazing. The back wall and ceiling of the tub area shows antique barn boards that are glazed with a matte finish, and recessed candle niches are set into the tub deck walls. Towel storage recesses into the stone tub surround. The tub is under-mounted below a solid quartz deck which is also used at the seat and recesses of the shower. The countertops are a man-made product made to look like rusted concrete. All hardware is oil-rubbed bronze. Light fixtures are oil-rubbed bronze with seeded glass and Edison bulbs. The beams are actual antique, hand-hewn barn beams bolted to the structure above. A custom made barn door offers privacy to the master bath. A custom armoire sits recessed between the two walk-in closets on either side and small window openings above the dresser area allow natural light to filter into the bedroom from the closets behind. The fireplace wall was added to include a recessed television that sits above another antique hand-hewn beam. Floating shelves with recessed linear lighting flank the stone work, and a key drop and charging station sits tucked behind the fireplace wall immediately as you enter the room. The bed is custom made with a dark brown semi-opaque stain. The foot board bench is upholstered in a soft wool with geometric pattern and the recliner is distressed leather. The dresser and side tables are custom made with simple styling in a distressed walnut finish and sconces are drop pendants with Edison bulbs. Overhead lighting allows for nighttime reading. One surrounds the large fireplace and serves as an area for conversation; the other is a gathering place for audio visual entertainment. The bar is an antique imported from Scotland and seats four. The bar stools swivel and have rustic finished frames with studded leather upholstery. Cabinets are a raised panel cherry with black glazing and distressing characteristics. A built-in magazine rack is shown next to the water closet and has a paper shelf above. The sink is stainless steel ad faucet is brushed nickel.
